Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO)® Certification Course

CPO® certification courses are designed to provide individuals with the basic knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations. The Certified Pool/Spa Operator® certification program has delivered more training than any other program in the pool and spa industry since 1972, resulting in more than 200,000 successful CPO® certifications in 44 countries. The CPO® certification program is widely accepted by health departments. The 2009 Edition of the NSPF® Pool & Spa Operator™Handbook has been updated to include the most current information available, including the addition of metric calculations. Instructors receive comprehensive training and certification to teach the CPO® certification program. These instructors represent every segment in the aquatic industry including operators, health officials, service professionals, builders, manufacturers, property managers, retailers, and academicians. The training these instructors provide has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities.
Cost is $249 for members and $289 for nonmembers if you sign up by May 24, 2010. (Cost includes the NSPF® Pool & Spa Operator™ Handbook, NSPF® Pool & Spa Operator™ Math Workbook, course handouts, NSPF CPO® exam and NSPF CPO® certification). Each person must bring a calculator and a photo ID (driver’s license etc) to the class. Limit 25 people.

Epi-Ready Team Training—Foodborne Illness Response Strategies Workshop
Friday & Saturday, June 4 & 5
8:00am – 5:00pm

NEHA, in conjunction with USDA/FSIS & CDC, is offering a training opportunity for environmental health professionals, epidemiologists, laboratorians, and public health nurses involved in conducting foodborne disease outbreak investigations. This two-day workshop is composed of interactive group exercises, Q&A sessions, and didactic lectures spanning the scope of an investigation. Those interested in participating must submit an application for consideration. Team applications are preferred. Six NEHA AEC registration scholarships will be awarded to selected applicants who successfully complete the Epi-Ready course. Mold and Moisture Workshop for Environmental Health Professionals
Saturday, June 5, 8:00am – 4:00pm
The Guidance for Public Health Professionals on Mold Exposure and Moisture Indoors workshop is presented by The Center for Indoor Environments and Health at the University of Connecticut Health Center. This workshop will provide public health and environmental professionals information on fungi, health effects from moisture indoors and building science. At the conclusion of this workshop participants will have information to:

  • Make informed decisions on the need for environmental intervention based on current information on health effects and exposure to mold and moisture
  • Understand the uncertainty of measures, the role of qualitative observations, and common misperceptions about mold and moisture
  • Guide individuals to resources to (1) reduce moisture and mold in their homes, schools, and buildings and to (2) help guide communication with providers
  • Manage risk communication where mold exposure is a concern This day-long interactive workshop will include presentations and small group exercises. Each participant will also receive workshop materials.

There is no charge for this workshop. The workshop will be videotaped. Capacity 40 people. Supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Indoor Environments Program.

NSF Plan Review Survey Course
Saturday, June 5, 8:30am – 5:00pm

The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Plan Review Survey Course for food service and retail food is designed to provide environmental health professionals with an understanding of the components and process of plan review. It is based on the current version of the FDA Model Food Code and the CFP/FDA Blue Book. The course covers the application process; menu review; site, mechanical, and structural systems utilities layout; and equipment specifications. It includes sections on water and wastewater, storage, refrigeration, cooking, dishwashing, and installation of equipment.
Cost is $109 for members and $159 for nonmembers if you sign up by May 24, 2010. Limit 50 people.

Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS)

This comprehensive refresher course is designed to enhance your preparation for the REHS/RS exam. The course will cover exam content areas. Participants are expected to have a solid level of preparation prior to the review course. You will be able to question the instructor who has many years of experience in environmental health teaching.

HACCP Manager Certification Course - Cancelled
Managing food safety risks in a foodservice setting has never been more important. With foodborne illness outbreaks occurring weekly in the United States, retail operations need to protect their liability and livelihood by implementing food safety management plans using the preventive principles of HACCP for Retail Food Operations.  The HACCP Manager Certification Course is designed for NEHA trainers, students, and current foodservice professionals working in retail food operations. It is also an excellent body of knowledge for any Food Safety professional and should be seen as an important supplement to your existing training.
This course will provide participants with the information necessary to implement an effective and dynamic food safety management system in a retail foodservice operation. The course will teach students how to identify, assess, and reduce or eliminate food safety risks by utilizing the Process Approach to HACCP. Students will take a nationally recognized HACCP Manager Certification Exam at the end of the course.
The HACCP Manager Certification Course has been cancelled at the 2010 NEHA AEC & Exhibition, but it IS still available online.  Please visit www.nehahaccp.com to register for the self-study course that is available online.

Healthy Homes Specialist (HHS)

Participants are expected to have some level of preparation prior to the review course.
