Green Event
As your professional organization on environmental health, NEHA is aggressively
pursuing ways in which to “green” our AEC & Exhibition. At
the 2008 conference, we pursued this effort with the following
initiatives:
-
using recycled paper and soy ink for the
conference program book
-
doing more to electronically promote the conference and reduce our direct mail promotions
-
locating recycling bins throughout the conference
-
using locally grown and certified organic food
as much as possible for the meals
In 2009, we will build upon these efforts by
adding the following new, “green” initiatives:
-
expanding the focus on sustainability in the
educational track
-
recycling plastic conference name badge
holders
-
providing a list of "green" restaurants,
attractions and local public transport map to attendees
-
providing more chances for you to be a
"green" participant
-
awarding the 2nd Annual Excellence in
Sustainability Award
NEHA's
2nd Annual Excellence in Sustainability Award
NEHA looks to recognize any organization, business, association,
individual, or NEHA member who is solving environmental challenges by using
innovative and environmentally sustainable practices with its Annual Excellence
in Sustainability Award. At the NEHA 2008 AEC & Exhibition, The City of Plano’s “Live Green in Plano”
program was awarded the first-ever Excellence in Sustainability Award. The
“Live Green in Plano” program created a culture within the organization that advanced sustainable
building practices in both commercial and residential development, as well as
future remodel and re-development projects.
NEHA is now accepting applications
for the 2nd Annual Excellence in Sustainability Award to be awarded
at this year’s conference. Deadline for submission has been extended to May
15, 2009.
