Dedicated to the advancement of the environmental health professional
Volume 76, No. 10 June 2014
Our cover this
month emphasizes
an important point
that the authors
of our feature,
“Incorporating
Community-Based
Participatory
Research Principles
[CBPR] Into Envi-
ronmental Health
Research: Challenges and Lessons Learned From
a Housing Pilot Study,” make about CBPR: it
is rooted in the communities that are active
participants as well as subjects of environmental
health research. The authors’ goal was to col-
laborate with residents of both green-built and
conventional low-income housing to determine
differences in chemical exposure and biologi-
cal agents. The authors also aimed to explain
to residents how to reduce their exposure and
therefore improve health outcomes.
