In this issue’s
cover feature,
“Norovirus Out-
break at a Wild-
land Fire Base
Camp Ignites
Investigation
of Restaurant
Inspection Poli-
cies,” the authors
describe the
investigation
of a norovirus outbreak at a wildland fire
base camp in Idaho in 2011. The investiga-
tion determined that a restaurant was the
likely infection source and identified lack
of managerial knowledge to protect against
foodborne disease one year after the restau-
rant’s opening. The authors also examined
state laws by surveying 18 states about exist-
ing rules or policies related to postopening
inspection requirements and timing.
