This month’s column describes several of the most recent visualization additions
to the Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. The Tracking Network is a web-
based surveillance system for public health use that is constantly evolving and tries to
make useful information. The new additions include multiple chart types, animated slider
maps, auto-conforming thumbnail maps, and demographic pop-ups on maps.
The Singularity and Our Collision Path With the Future
New forms of intelligence are continually being developed, from artificial
intelligence to superhuman intelligence. How these trends and potentials will affect the
future are still unclear but this month’s column explores some thoughts on this and the
predicted approach to a technological singularity.
