ABOUT THE POSITION/DEPARTMENT:
The Alaska JRCOSTEP is a rewarding opportunity providing valuable environmental health experience. Alaskan environmental health professionals focus on ensuring safety of village water supplies; prevention and control of diseases such as rabies, botulism and acute respiratory infections; working with small, isolated communities to develop internal environmental health capacity; and conducting ground-breaking research for the benefit of Alaskan Natives.

Alaska JRCOSTEP assignments usually last 70-90 days, taking place between the months of May and August. Duty stations in Alaska include Anchorage, Bethel, Dillingham, Fairbanks, Kotzebue, Nome and Sitka. Each area has something unique to offer both professionally and recreationally. Most locations are rural. Travel to your assigned duty location is by scheduled jet service. Inter-regional travel usually requires travel on small, single engine aircraft. Travel by boat or four-wheeler may also be required.
