ABOUT THE POSITION

The Peoria City/County Board of Health is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Director of Environmental Health. The Health Department, with 130 employees, provides public health services to the citizens of Peoria County. 

The Board is seeking energetic, innovative candidates with successful background of service in similar executive level position. Strong emphasis on leadership, interpersonal and consensus building skills. Requires ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with other related agencies, professionals, and citizen groups.

This position offers excellent opportunities and challenges for those desiring director level experience.  The ideal candidate will bring vision and drive to the position, have excellent interpersonal skills and experience in strategic planning in a public health setting. Management philosophy and style must embrace collaboration promoting an accessible Environmental Health Division as well as encouraging public participation. Must have demonstrated experience in working with multi-cultural populations.

This position manages the Environmental Health Group which includes developing goals and resources for the group.  Plans and directs programs according to state and local guidelines to protect and safeguard public health.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Public Health, administration or related field required.  Five years related experience in Environmental Health required. Three years experience in a supervisory role, required.

The ideal candidate must be a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner or equivalent. Additionally, must possess or indicate ability to obtain certification in the following areas: Certified Food Service Manager and Instructor, Licensed Pesticide Applicator, Licensed Lead Risk Assessor (to include XRF training/certification), and must be certified as a Radiation Safety Officer.
