ABOUT THE POSITION
 

There is one current opening for a Public Health Advisor 3 within the Office of Environmental Health, Safety, and Toxicology.  This recruitment may be used to fill other Public Health Advisor 3 vacancies as they occur statewide.  To learn more about the Department of Health, Office of Environmental Health, Safety and Toxicology, visit  http://www.doh.wa.gov/ehp/ts/default.htm

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor’s of science degree or higher in environmental health, food science, microbiology, or a closely allied science, and four (4) or more years (full-time equivalency) of progressive experience working in a food safety program: 

°          interpreting and/or applying food safety rules.

°          developing guidance documents and training materials and sessions.

°          giving presentations to a wide variety of stakeholders.

°          conducting food-borne disease outbreak investigations and trace backs.

°          providing leadership to other staff, or local or state agencies in developing or implementing effective food safety programs.

DOH is most interested in candidates that have demonstrated experience in the following competencies:

·         Communication: able to express themselves clearly and succinctly orally and in writing.

·         Leadership: demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with local, state, and federal partners on a variety of food safety issues and concerns.

·         Workload management: able to determine appropriate priorities and manage workload effectively with minimal oversight.

·         Achievement Orientation: demonstrates an on-going commitment to learning and self-improvement.

·         Technical knowledge: demonstrates the ability to interpret and apply a variety of laws, standards, and procedures related to food safety.

·         Interpersonal Skills: works effectively in a variety of situations with people of diverse backgrounds and differing opinions.

·         Analysis and problem solving: demonstrates use of good judgment in decision making; is able to analyze complex information and situations and provide well thought out recommendations.

·         Computer skills: skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
