The Community Development Department is seeking a dynamic individual who is detail and multi-task oriented, highly responsible and motivated, and who exhibits excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to perform pre-opening, routine, complaint-based, and follow-up inspections of fixed, mobile, and temporary food establishments, schools and child/health care facilities in accordance with the Sugar Land Code of Ordinances, the Texas Food Establishment Rules, and applicable state regulations; respond to emergencies involving food code violations and imminent hazards related to food service.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum of 30 semester hours of natural science or basic science or a combination thereof.
  • Relatable work experience as a Sanitarian, Sanitarian-in-Training or Health Inspector is preferred.
  • Previous municipal experience is preferred.
  • Current certificate as Texas Registered Professional Sanitarian is preferred at time of hire or the ability to take and pass the Sanitarian Registration Examination for the State of Texas within six (6) months from hire date will be required.
  • Must possess a valid Class “C” Texas Drivers License.
