High-Risk Behaviors
Children exhibit unique behaviors, like hand-to-mouth tendencies, and may not wash their hands as often.
Children exhibit more hand-to-mouth tendencies, and are thus more likely to be exposed to hazards through ingestion.
This could include:
- Increased lead intake from soil, paint, or dust, leading to higher blood-lead levels and an increased likelihood of cognitive deficits
- Putting toys or other household objects into mouth than may contain lead or other harmful toxicants
