NEHA: Bringing Awareness to Food Safety

NEHA Celebrates National Public Health Week

Did you know that 1 in 6 Americans gets sick every year from contaminated food? Thanks to the efforts of environmental health professionals in your local communities, they have helped reduce foodborne illness 10 percent, preventing about five million Americans from getting sick every year. NEHA promotes food safety to reduce the number of foodborne illness occurring in America by educating environmental health professionals and engaging with policy makers.

Hospitalizations due to foodborne illnesses are estimated to cost over $3 billion and lost productivity is estimated to cost between $20 billion and $40 billion each year.

Not only does NEHA strive to educate and engage the environmental health community, but we also offer credentials, certifications and educational sessions at our annual conference that help make this goal a reality.
