NEHA: Bringing Awareness to Water Quality

Do you ever wonder how environmental health relates to the water you drink and play in? Eighty-nine percent of Americans get tap water from a community water system where water treatment facilities are instrumental in providing healthy and safe drinking water. Environmental health professionals and policy makers are responsible for the standards that promote safe drinking water. Due to the work done by environmental health professionals, lead exposure from water has declined from 88 percent to <1 percent since 1980 and has saved $213 billion per year!

NEHA provides education, resources and support for water quality programs around the country. For instance, at the NEHA 2016 AEC and HUD Healthy Homes Conference, presented by Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, there will be over a dozen educational sessions focused on water quality.
