About the Position

Full-time Registered Sanitarian or Sanitarian-In-Training for Anaconda-Deer Lodge County under the direction of the Environmental Health/Sanitarian.   A Sanitarian-In-Training must be able to obtain their Montana license within 1 year of hire. This position performs professional and technical work in monitoring potential environmental health hazards and enforces state and local environmental health laws.  Service area includes the Tri-County area of Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Granite, and Powell counties.  Position will be required to travel the Tri-County area, perform public health inspections and site evaluations, advise and permit septic systems and wells, review subdivision applications for compliance, investigate communicable disease outbreaks, violations and complaints, provide information and educational support to the public and establishment owners.


Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or equivalent from an accredited college or university.  Evaluation for equivalency is a case-by-case process but begins with 45-quarter hours or 30 semester hours in the physical and biological health sciences with specific courses in biology, chemistry and microbiology.  For qualifications to obtain a license as a sanitarian in Montana or to qualify as an S.I.T, please visit the Board of Sanitarian website at:

Salary will be established based on experience and qualifications. 

Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
