Environmental Health Supervisor

About the Position

This position is responsible for effective and efficient management of the Environmental Health section of Public Health and is a member of the leadership team.

Environmental Health is responsible for implementing state-mandated programs and enforcing laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety. Environmental Health also collaborates with the Communicable Disease section to investigate and control food-borne disease outbreaks. With Public Health modernization, the scope of Environmental Health will expand over the next
several years to include increased involvement in transportation and land use planning, policy development, and community engagement.

The Environmental Health Supervisor leads strategic planning and implementation for the Environmental Health section; manages the day-to-day activities of the program, including supervising a regular staff of eleven (11); oversees the $2.1 million program budget and reporting; complies with appropriate federal, state and local statutes governing program operation; leads or participates in local planning/task force committees; implements joint projects; participates in Public Health committees and initiatives; and contributes to strategic planning and implementation in Public Health.


Requirements for this position:
• Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification within one year of hire.

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of professional experience directly related to area assigned, including lead or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

A Master’s degree in Public Health is preferred but not required.
