Director of Environmental Health
About the Position
San Joaquin County is recruiting for a highly experienced Director of Environmental Health to lead the daily activities of the Environmental Health Department and to provide executive-level leadership to ensure regulatory requirements are met. This position provides administrative oversight and strategic direction for the Environmental Health Department and ensures that all department programs and operations comply with applicable laws and regulations, as well as with the policies established by the County Administrator and the Board of Supervisors.
The ideal candidate is expected to model a strong work ethic and leadership skills, including accountability to oneself and others while demonstrating the ability to be a collaborative and innovative problem solver. The candidate will possess exceptional communication skills and a working knowledge of environmental health programs in a government setting with a proven ability to effectively build and manage teams, utilizing superior interpersonal and analytical skills with a high level of integrity combined with an ethical and fair philosophy.
Candidates must have the ability to leverage the technical expertise of internal and external resources while managing competing demands with well-developed organizational and decision-making skills that demonstrate innovation and fiscal responsibility.

Education: Graduation from an accredited university with a master’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, public health, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
Experience: Seven years of senior-level management experience overseeing a variety of comprehensive, environmental health-related programs and operations in a public agency setting that required possession of a Registered Environmental Health Specialist certificate.
License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Certificate: Possession of a valid certificate as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California Department of Health Services.
