The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) is pleased to announce that Doug Farquhar, JD, has joined the NEHA staff as director of its Government Affairs department.

Farquhar is an attorney with 30 years of experience working with policy makers on environmental and health issues. Primarily working with state legislatures, he has testified 60 times before legislative committees in 36 states, in addition to consulting with state agency staff in every state on enlightening state policy makers. He has written books and articles on state legislative policy and was a columnist for NEHA’s Journal of Environmental Health.

"I look forward to working with NEHA and its members on advancing environmental health before federal, state, and local governments,” stated Farquhar. “This work is a great opportunity to enlighten policy makers on the importance of a well-funded and resourced environmental health program to the public and public health. Environmental health impacts all aspects of public life and NEHA is the perfect organization to highlight this importance before policy makers."

“We are thrilled to bring Doug on board to the NEHA team,” said Dr. David Dyjack, NEHA executive director. “Doug’s experience in shaping environmental health policy will be a highly valuable asset for our organization and he will be instrumental in our efforts to connect with national, state, and local policy makers, to advance the environmental health profession.”

For the past 25 years, Farquhar has directed the Environmental Health Program at the National Conference of State Legislatures. As director, he worked closely with federal counterparts at the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Commission for Environmental Cooperation.
