Environmental Management Agency Administrator / Air Pollution Control Officer

About the Position

Reporting directly to the Board of Supervisors and County Administrative Officer, the Environmental  Management Agency Administrator/Air Pollution Control Officer is an at-will department head that will be responsible for the overall operation of the Agency.  The Environmental Management Agency Administrator carries out the objectives of the Board of Supervisors by providing the efficient delivery of public services.

The Calaveras County Environmental Management Agency is made up of five (5) divisions; Environmental Health, On-Site Wastewater, Agriculture, Air Pollution, and Animal Services.

The Environmental Management Agency staffing consists of 26 full-time staff; Environmental Health=9, Onsite Wastewater=2, Agriculture=6, Air Pollution=1 and Animal Services=7.   In addition, volunteers play a critical role in providing service with over 100 volunteers actively working in the Animal Services division.

Each division is a separate budget unit with a blend of funding from the County General Fund, fees, contracts and grants with a total budget of $3.7M for the Agency.


The Ideal Candidate

Our new Agency Administrator will be articulate, collaborative and confident with a proven track record in environmental management.  A knowledge of contemporary Agriculture and Animal Services functions and ability to provide proactive support to both internal and external customers is expected.  

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Registered Environmental Health Specialist in the state of California with five years of professional level supervisory, administrative, executive of consulting experience.  A strong knowledge of information gathering methods and analysis; budget preparation; and report writing techniques is expected.
