The District Sanitarian is a public health professional who is qualified by education, training and experience to perform environmental health duties and ensure licensed facilities are compliant with regulations. The Sanitarian is a Department Head with supervisory responsibility for one permanent employee and one seasonal staff member.

The Sanitarian develops, implements and monitors programs to correct actual and potential pubic and environmental health hazards, conducts inspections and investigates public and environmental health hazards in Dawson County. May also take on similar work in neighboring Counties. This position is also responsible to administer regulations under the Montana Subdivision and Platting Act and the Sanitation Subdivision Act.

Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological sciences or environmental health; current license as a Registered Sanitarian (RS) or ability to obtain license within one year of hire; 3 years of experience as a Sanitarian or in a closely related field; or an acceptable combination of education and experience; valid driver's license; ability to lift 50-75 pounds; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to operate standard office equipment; and ability to assess and determine appropriate actions in emergency situations.
