Environmental Health Specialist - Registered - Senior (Land Development)

About the Position

The Department of Health and Human Services – Environmental Health Division is comprised of separate units providing specialized services to residents of Placer County, which include land development, consumer protection/food safety, and hazmat/solid waste. The division is currently accepting applications for the classification of Senior Registered Environmental Specialist for the Land Development team. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing and approving plans for construction, destruction, or modification of domestic, irrigation and geothermal heat exchange wells by conducting field inspections and reviewing proposed well construction details and historical records
  • Performing field inspections to assess parcel and tract maps and the feasibility of new land use proposals, conditional use permits, zone changes, etc.
  • Conducting field inspections and record searches to prove assessments of existing wastewater treatment systems
  • Inspecting sewage cleaning vehicles, chemical toilet pumping vehicles and toilet rental agencies

The current vacancy is a permanent position located in Auburn, CA. The position may need to travel to the Tahoe-Truckee area on occasion to support the division’s satellite office. The position may also be required to be on a Stand-By-Rotation for emergency response.

Qualifications

Experience: Two years of responsible registered environmental health administration and enforcement experience performing duties similar to an Environmental Health Specialist - Registered - Associate with Placer County. Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in any of the biological or physical sciences, environmental health science, engineering or a related field. License or Certificate: Possession of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist issued by the State of California Department of Health Services. Within six months of assignment to hazardous materials enforcement, Certificate of Completion of Training of 40 Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Materials Categorization, Advanced Class. May need to possess a valid driver’s license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
