The Sampson County Health Department seeks an experienced and dynamic professional to provide leadership and supervision in promoting and protecting the public health through enforcement of state and local environmental laws, educational programs and consultations with the public.

Description of Work:

This vital position requires considerable knowledge of state and local environmental health laws, regulations and procedures as well as a broad knowledge of office administration and management to include personnel policies and procedures and the budgetary process. With direction and support from the Director of Health, this position plans, implements, supervises and administers a county environmental health program requiring sound judgment and the ability to deal professionally and tactfully within and outside the organization while enforcing public health laws. Exceptional customer service skills are required to ensure successful outcomes in working with others in solving complex environmental problems.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred, in environmental health from a program which is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health Curricula of the National Environmental Health Association and be registered as a sanitarian by the NC State Board of Sanitarian Examiners with three years of experience in professional environmental health work at the Sanitarian level or above in a health department, with one year preferably having been in an administrative, management, or supervisory capacity.
