Deputy Director of Environmental Health Services
About the Position
The County of Marin is conducting a statewide search effort to attract highly experienced environmental health services professionals who are interested in boldly leading this vital county function as the Deputy Director of Environmental Health Services. This is at-will classification reports to the Community Development Director and receives day-to-day directions from the Assistant Director of Community Development. The Deputy Director of Environmental Health Services is responsible for planning, organizing, administering, and directing the County's Environmental Health Services Program and coordinating environmental health services with various departments and state and federal agencies. The Deputy Director also serves as the County Health Officer and acts as an agent of the Public Health Officer, requiring frequent coordination and consultation in key areas. This position is responsible for the administration of state and local environmental health statutes, including policies and guidelines established by the Community Development Agency, Board of Supervisors, elected and appointed officials, federal, state, and county laws, ordinances, and regulations.
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the stated knowledge and abilities listed. Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of increasingly responsible professional experience performing the duties equivalent to a California Registered Environmental Health Specialist including 2 years of supervisory experience. Administrative experience handling budgets and programs is highly desired. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California, Department of Public Health is required at the time of appointment.
