Deputy Director, Environmental Health and Quality

The Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) of the County of San Diego is seeking résumés from qualified individuals for Deputy Director, Environmental Health and Quality. This executive management position will be a strategic and innovative leader who strives for continuous improvement and is responsible for providing leadership and oversight over various DEHQ divisions. DEHQ is a nationally recognized agency with award winning programs and has an annual operating budget of $55.7 million with 308 employees.
Applicants must possess the following: A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency with at least 30 semester units of basic biology, physical, or environmental science courses AND five years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the classification. Experience must include three years of management level experience in an environmental agency, organization, or company and at least one year of supervision OR, A combination of experience and/or education as stated above. Notes: A master's degree or higher degree may substitute for a total of one year of experience and cannot be applied to the required one year of supervision. In order for education to substitute for work experience as indicated above, college level coursework must demonstrate progress toward a degree and may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Highly desirable certifications: Possession of a current and valid registration by the State of California as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS), certifications in mosquito control, terrestrial invertebrate vector control, and vertebrate vector control (Gold Card), ICC California UST Inspector certification, APSA certification, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC).
