About the Position

The Environmental Health Division of Washtenaw County Public Health is looking for a full-time Sanitarian to be assigned primarily to our Pollution Prevention Program.  Primary job duties include inspection of facilities that store, manufacture, or use hazardous, toxic or polluting materials. The program helps to ensure safety of those working with the chemicals and prevents contamination to the environment. Other assignments as noted in the job description will be included. Washtenaw County is located in southeast Michigan, covering an area of 720 square miles. Its 27 cities, villages and townships are home to about 354,000 citizens in urban, suburban, and rural settings.  This mix of different settings provides many opportunities for education, recreation, business, agricultural, and home life.  The two largest cities are Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, homes to two large universities - the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Biology, Chemistry or a related field. Registration as a Sanitarian in the State of Michigan or Registered Environmental Health Specialist through the National Environmental Health Association preferred but not required at time of hiring. As a condition of continued employment employees are required to acquire one of the aforementioned registrations within four (4) years and maintain Registration in good standing.
