Supervising Environmental Health Specialist

The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent career opportunity for qualified individuals interested in the Supervising Environmental Health Specialist position. The department currently has one vacancy in the Solid Waste Program of the Environmental Health Division located in Concord, CA. The incumbent may be required to travel to various locations within Contra Costa County.
Will plan, organize and administer one or more environmental health services programs within the Environmental Health Division of the Health Services Department; supervise subordinate staff; coordinate program activities with other services within the Department; and perform related work as required.
Environmental Health is the prevention, preservation and improvement of environmental factors affecting the health and safety of communities. Contra Costa Environmental Health Division's mission is to protect and promote the health of people throughout Contra Costa County through programs for safe food, safe water for drinking and recreation, and the sanitary management of wastes.

What you will typically be responsible for:

Providing leadership and technical assistance to assigned team(s)

Managing staff to meet set goals

Serving as a subject matter expert in assigned program area(s)

Interpreting and analyzing data to determine whether actions are meeting intended goals

Effectively working with management team to accomplish division goals

Developing and improving assigned program(s)

Assisting in the development or revision of divisional policies and procedures

Representing the division in meetings, with other agencies, and elected officials in assigned program area(s)

Minimum Qualifications:
License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License will be accepted throughout the application process.
Education: Possession of a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an environmental health or science curriculum which meets the education requirements of the California State Department of Health registration as an Environmental Health Specialist.
Certificate: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist issued by the State of California.
Experience: Five years of full-time or its equivalent experience as an Environmental Health Specialist in an agency involved with environmental health, public health, rural or urban sanitation.
