Data-Forward Environmental Health Food Safety Practice

Description

Ensuring the safety of food served in restaurants and other licensed food service establishments requires actions that cut across the 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services. To provide these services, environmental health agencies collect and maintain a wide variety of data that can inform foodborne illness prevention and surveillance practice.

This month's column highlights how environmental health data can provide important context for effective prevention methods and drive outbreak investigations, illness prevention, and inspection practices.
