About the Cover

Efforts to characterize the environmental health workforce are needed to strengthen the field. There is a lack of information from the perspective of state and local health department workers regarding their tasks, responsibilities, and skill gaps. This issue’s cover article, “Characterizing the Roles and Skill Gaps of the Environmental Health Workforce in State and Local Health Departments,” serves to address this gap in the literature by characterizing environmental health workers. The article also compares and contrasts these characteristics between state health agencies and local health departments.
