About the Cover

For the September issue, we have featured “Implications of Hurricane Harvey on Environmental Public Health in Harris County, Texas” on the cover in recognition of National Preparedness Month (www.ready.gov/September). On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport, Texas, as a Category 4 major hurricane. Over the next week, Harvey carved a path of destruction and flooding across Texas. This issue’s cover article looks at the natural disaster through an environmental health lens. It provides an overview of the historic flooding event, identifies vulnerable populations, highlights the potential environmental public health risks associated with the storm, and provides recommendations for future actions.
