The Power of One Health: Partnerships for Emerging Threats and Screwworm Readiness

One Health is an approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment. One Health is not new, but it has become more important in recent years. This is because many factors have changed interactions between people, animals, plants, and our environment. Dr. Basler with talk about how CDC’s One Health Office works with federal, state, and international One Health partners to strengthen One Health collaborations to effectively address health threats that occur at the human-animal-environmental interface. He will also present on federal New World screwworm planning and preparedness activities to highlight an example of effective One Health coordination and collaboration.
Colin Basler, DVM, MPH is the deputy director of CDC’s One Health Office and the CDC One Health liaison to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). He received his DVM and MPH degrees from Tufts University. Prior to joining CDC’s One Health Office, Dr. Basler trained as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer and later served as a veterinary epidemiologist with the Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch of the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases. Dr. Basler is a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
