Our Board of Directors' Credentialing Committee decided to discontinue the HHS and CIOWTS credentials because of the high cost of updating the exams. As a non-profit organization, it would have taken many years to recover these costs.
Healthy Homes Specialist Credential
If you are interested in obtaining a Healthy Housing Principles Certificate or Healthy Homes Evaluator Certificate, visit the Building Performance Institute.
Many practicing credential holders have chosen to maintain their credential through ongoing education. The credential is still recognized and maintained through our credential maintenance program. We will continue to support individuals who hold the credential.
If you currently hold the HHS credential, continue to enter continuing education hours through your MyNEHA account. You will receive a renewal notice via email 30, 60, and 90 days prior to your credential expiring.
- 15 CE hours needed
- $125 renewal fee for members and non-members
Certified Installers of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Credential
There will not be an opportunity for new applicants to take the CIOWTS examination. However, the CIOWTS designation is still recognized and maintained by NEHA through its credential maintenance program. Many practicing credential holders have chosen to maintain their credential through ongoing education and we will continue to support those individuals who hold the credential.
For applicants interested in taking the CIOWTS exam, credential testing is now offered through the Iowa Onsite Waste Water Association (IOWWA). Test dates and locations can be found on their website. Testing is generally offered each spring and fall.
