Discontinued Credentials

There will not be an opportunity for new applicants to take the CFOI, CFSSA, RFSA, HHS, CEHT, or CIOWTS examinations. However, the credentials are still recognized and maintained through our credential maintenance program. You can continue to enter continuing education hours through your MyNEHA account. We will email you a renewal notice 30, 60, and 90 days prior to your credential expiring.

Certified Foodborne Outbreak Investigator Credential (CFOI)

  • 24 CE hours needed
  • $130 renewal fee for members
  • $345 renewal fee for non-members

Certified in Food Safety Supplier Audits Credential (CFSSA)

  • 24 CE hours needed
  • $195 renewal fee for members
  • $310 renewal fee for non-members

Registered Food Safety Auditor Credential (RFSA)

  • 24 CE hours needed
  • $195 renewal fee for members
  • $310 renewal fee for non-members

Healthy Homes Specialist Credential (HHS)

The HHS credential, developed in partnership with the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH), was designed to test an understanding of the connection between health and housing and how to take a holistic approach to identify and resolve problems that threaten the health and well-being of residents. If you are interested in obtaining a Healthy Housing Principles Certificate or Healthy Homes Evaluator Certificate, visit the Building Performance Institute.

Certified Environmental Health Technician (CEHT)

The CEHT is for individuals who are interested in field intensive environmental health activities—such as testing, sampling, and inspections—and who are required to provide information on safe environmental health practices to eliminate environmental health hazards. Individuals holding the CEHT provide technical support and assistance to a variety of professionals (environmental health, specialists, health officers, sanitary engineers, health physicists, etc.) and often coordinate sanitation and environmental health activities with state and local public health units.

Certified Installers of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Credential (CIOWTS) Basic & Advanced Levels

The CIOWTS credentials are designed to test the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for the successful installation of an onsite wastewater treatment system. Since it is a national credential, and state and local codes are not covered, this credential is meant to enhance a state or local regulatory program. For applicants interested in taking the CIOWTS exam, credential testing is now offered through the Iowa Onsite Waste Water Association (IOWWA). Test dates and locations can be found on their website. Testing is generally offered each spring and fall.
