About the Cover

Hyperlocal restaurants source their food from their own property. There is a paucity of literature on how food service, agriculture, and public health relate to hyperlocal restaurants. The goal of this issue’s cover article was to explore this intersection by conducting semistructured interviews with hyperlocal restaurateurs and public health officials. Results show that restaurateurs are invested in providing the best quality and value to customers, even though they perceived customers as wary of the associated cost. Results from both restaurateurs and public health officials also show that health inspectors do not ask about farm operations. The article includes suggestions and tools for environmental health practitioners and public health officials.
