About the Cover

This month’s cover article explores how advances in AI, wastewater monitoring, and environmental health surveillance can transform public health preparedness for mass gatherings such as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The authors propose the Environmental Health Surveillance and AI for Event Protection (E-SAFE) model, an anticipatory framework that integrates environmental monitoring, predictive analytics, social media trends, and human expertise to identify outbreaks and other health threats before they escalate. By shifting from reactive to proactive surveillance, the model aims to strengthen emergency readiness, protect healthcare systems, and create a scalable blueprint for safeguarding future large-scale events and communities worldwide
