This workshop is designed to address the challenges private well owners face during natural disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, and floods. With over 15% of the American population depending on private wells for drinking water, and minimal regulation on water quality, it is crucial to empower owners with knowledge and strategies for disaster preparedness and response.
Participants will engage in presentations and roundtable discussions focused on:
- Understanding the unique impacts of different natural disasters on private wells.
- Strategies for safeguarding well water before, during, and after disasters.
- Adapting outreach and educational efforts for well owners during crisis situations.
- Sharing experiences and best practices for disaster preparedness and recovery.
This workshop is vital to promote safe drinking water and mitigate health risks associated with contaminated well water during disasters. Participants will have the opportunity to share experiences and learn from peers and expert panelists. NEHA will offer continuing education credits for the workshop content.
